Books Read – April/May

Books read, here. High points were Beckett’s Murphy and Cao Xueqin’s The Story of the Stone, vol.1. Will be on to vol.2 shortly. Not sure what, if anything, to say about it yet. Just finished Vanburgh’s very enjoyable The Provok’d Wife; – it certainly is a headier brew than Sheridan, this earlier restoration comedy. (Vanburgh appears to have given in to public opinion and re-written certain scenes in which a man disguised as a priest becomes involved in a drunken brawl).

I got bored of my “Current Reading” list, so I’ve exchanged it for an entirely different set of books.
